Bali`s handicraft exports up 8 pct

Denpasar, Bali (Antara News) - Bali`s export of various handicraft goods in the first ten months of 2007 rose 8.6 percent to US$202.8 million from US186.7 million in the same period last year.

Wooden handicraft goods and furniture still dominated the export with a value of US$113.7 million compared to US$105 million in the same period last year, Ni Wayan Kusumawathi, chief of the foreign trade subdivision at the Bali industry and trade office, said on Wednesday.

The European Union, the United States, Japan, and Australia were the main markets for Balinese handicraft goods.

The other handicraft goods included silver jewelry, bamboo statues, ceramics and paintings which were exported to 79 countries.

Wooden toy exports in the first ten months of 2007 increased 26.5 percent to US$79.6 million from US$62.9 million a year earlier.

This was followed by household utensils such as tables, chairs and cupboards with a value of US$34.1 million, down 18 percent from the year before. (*)
