Australian, Briton deported from Tangerang area

Tangerang, Banten (Antara News) - An Australian initialed with SL and British NSCE were deported from Tangerang area for overstaying their visa, a local official said.

The Australian and British nationals aged 38 and 41 respectively were sent home on Friday after Immigration officials found them working in Tangerang using on-arrival visa, Tangerang immigration office head Pondang Tambunan said here Monday.

Although the two foreigners were permitted to stay in Indonesia for a month they had obtained job as English teachers in a foreign language course in Pamulang area in Tangerang since October 6, 2007.

Immigration officials nabbed them Thursday night after some people told the former that two foreigners had lived in Pamulang area, strange as it may seem.

Last Thursday, the immigration officials also deported Chinese Zhou Lili aged 26 for working in the country using a tourist visa.

Data of the Tangerang immigration office showed the institution had deported 15 foreign nationals since early this year and 37 others in 2006. (*)

Two English teachers deported
City News - November 03, 2007

Multa Fidrus, The Jakarta Post, Tangerang

The Tangerang Immigration agency deported two foreign nationals Friday for violating their visas.

Arriving on tourist visas, the two men, identified as 38-year-old Australian Stephen Lowson and 41-year-old Nicholas Stanley Charles Eager of Britain, were detained Thursday night while teaching English in Pamulang.

Chief of Tangerang Immigration Agency Pondang Tambunan told The Jakarta Post that the two would be sent to their countries of origin on Friday evening.

"We have tickets for them; Nicholas is scheduled to leave Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 8:20 p.m., and Steven will fly to Australia at 8:45," he said Friday, adding that the deportation process would be tightly monitored by his officers.

Lowson and Eager reportedly entered the country on Oct. 6.

Tambunan said as an industrial area, Tangerang is a haven for foreigners working without proper documents.

Tambunan contacted residents to help officers monitor the two men's movements.

"The Thursday arrest was based on a report from a resident."
