RI exports to Europe increasing by 10-12 pct

Jakarta (Antara News) - Indonesia`s exports to Europe had been predicted to remain increasing by 10-12 percent, despite the strengthening of the europ exchange rate against the US dollar.

"Yes, it has really enhanced the competitiveness of Indonesia`s exports to the European market," Minister of Trade Mari Elka Pangestu said in Jakarta on Monday.

The four destinations of Indonesian exports in Europe are Germany, France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

She said that natural resources-based exports will serve as backbone of Indonesia`s nonoil exports to Europe.

"I think that the target would still be an increase of 10-12 percent, which is the average increase of the growth of the traditional market," she said.

In the meantime, Indonesia`s exports of manufactured products, like footwear, may increase only next year after an increase in the production capacity of industries, whereas actually there is an opportunity for exports to the Chinese and Vietnamese market facing European duming charges.

"This year Indonesia`s footwear exports have not been too large, but with an increase production capacity, the great number of orders could be met next year," she added.

To prevent duming and transhipment charges, the minister added, the government will tighten the issuance of certificates of goods origin (SKA) and establish data exchange cooperation between the states concerned.

Besides footwear, some factories producing textile and garments, electronic and automotive products, expanding their business operations in Indonesia. (*)
