I recently posted about leaving the country, thanks everyone for your help. Another issue has just come up and I am hoping for some advice.

I left my previous employer before I got my kitas and am now looking to go back to Indonesia to work. I recently got a new job but my new employer is saying that my old employer needs to give me a letter saying that I am no longer employed - is this correct??

I didn't leave on the best of terms so I don't know if my old boss would do that. Is there another way of getting around this??

Cheers, Sherlock

There is no issue. that your new employer is attempting to make it one is something you should consider.

Yes ... no letter is needed which means one of two things - useless HR / admin person doesn't know what they are doing or your new employer is trying to delay getting you a visa which is a lot more to worry about

Thanks all. The situation is that my new employer is saying the Dept of Manpower have us listed as already employed with my old employer and until they get a letter (from my old employer) stating otherwise they cannot process my new work visa.

I don't think my new employer is making an issue, he is really keen to have me and wants me to start asap.

Does this sound right?

that should not be a big issue. you are not bonded labour.

however, you better get your employer to get a visa agent to handle this matter.

The finer details between a visa agent and the department can be negotiated over a kopi jawa, kretek and backhander.
