From the shoutbox:

[ Dilli ] Is it understandable that as a bule I am suffering increased stress due to this annual event [ramadan fasting month]

[ KuKuKaChu ] you do realise that as a KITAS holder, you are entitled to strangle one WNI [indonesian citizen] every year.

[ Dilli ] Strangle is not enough
[ Dilli ] I've almost had it with some of these idiots. I think that there is a medical reason for this behaviour

[ KuKuKaChu ] genetic. i blame the randy sultans for all the inbreeding
[ KuKuKaChu ] the Y chromosomes are the worst

[ Dilli ] Nah, the bodies metabolism must be out of balance due to eating all night rather than the normal eating all day!

[ KuKuKaChu ] the reason why javanese women are so keen to "memperbaiki keturunan" is because they intuitively recognize the defective Y chromosomes in their own population
[ KuKuKaChu ] in short, Java Woman prefers to breed with Non-Java Man.
[ KuKuKaChu ] someone tell me i'm wrong! i dare you!

[ Dilli ] I am understanding this!

[ Capt. Mainwaring ] ooh you bitch kuku , but it is true

You make me sound racist there. I can assure you nothing is farther from the truth.

I'm merely commenting on the fact that during Ramadan there seems to be an air off "not giving a shit" which manifests itself with:

Bad (well I mean worse than usual) driving.
Bad timekeeping.
Forgetfullness.
Sleeping at desks.
Leave requests that obviously mean nothing as they leave a day early and never come back on time.
Requests for salary advances over and above their Lebaran bonus.
Streaming prayer chants from computer speakers. (Customers have asked if I am working in a mosque)

I could go on, but, to do so would be pointless.

Rant, rant, rant! Sooner everything gets back to normal the better!

Diminished Javanese gene pool? It's like one big house of Windsor out here. Seriously though, local chicks are choking for mixed babies. Maybe some instinct of Darwinian natural selection is kicking in here.

From the subject, I thought the discussion is about the ancient homosapien, which is neither human nor ape.

I don't know why you fellas hire these types in the first place - let alone allow them to stay. If any of us got posted to Texas to manage an international company's office, would we hire an office full of fanatical, born-again, right-wing Christian Bible thumpers? I think not for the most part, or at least we'd keep the search open long enough to find some "normal" types with the same skills before hiring the Born Again zealots.

I work with a wide variety of companies, iNGOs, UN agencies, foundations and consultancies. Inevitably, the ones that are well-run, professional, efficient, use best practices and display good governance are all staffed by a diverse group of minority Indonesians -- mostly females, Chinese, Indian, Manadonese, Riau-ese etc...

The ones that have problems with efficiency, payment schedules and generally a low level of professionalism are staffed with groups of Indonesians from the majority groups.

Some people like to label others racist when such things are openly discussed, but these are observations over a decade of first-hand experience here.

Most of our employees were inherited when we bought a local Indonesian company.

Some have as many as twenty years employment, this raises issues about releasing them.

Anyway, it's not my call on that matter, just remarking that this behaviour seems to be the "Ramadan" norm. (I am including all religions, seem's to be infectious)

My guess is "fanatical, born-again, right-wing Christian Bible thumpers" would make top employees.
