Dell turns to SMEs to expand business

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Dell Indonesia, in partnership with the Indonesian Internet Kiosk Association (Awari), is offering personal computers (PC) packages for Awari members as part of its first ever marketing campaign aimed at the country's small and medium enterprises (SMEs) market.

"Using our success in the large enterprises segment as a springboard, we expect this partnership will facilitate Dell's entry into the SMEs sector, which has grown rapidly in the country," country manager Megawaty Khie said during the signing of the cooperation agreement at the InterContinental Hotel in Jakarta on Thursday.

"Telematics (information communications technology) associations like Awari have an important role in bridging the digital divide as they expand the country's Internet penetration. Cooperating with Awari would therefore be the fastest route to reach our target market," Megawaty said.

She added the partnership is part of Dell's campaign to maintain its 40 percent annual growth and 2010 vision of becoming the market leader in all sectors the company currently serves.

Awari said there were 10,000 Internet kiosks across the archipelago, 300 of which were members of the association established in February this year.

According to Awari chairman Irwin Day, the Dell-Awari partnership would be an important step in expanding Internet businesses in the country and in building a strong network among Awari members.

He said the initiative was based on a member attesting to the quality of Dell products.

"One of our members said that after several years of using Dell products, the technical problems he encountered were minimal compared to other products. And in terms of pricing; considering Dell's performance, the offer packages are very worthwhile, so this partnership is mutually advantageous," he said.

The Dell-Awari Merdeka desktop packages come in two options: the Merdeka A package with 10 PCs and 1 billing system, valued at US$5,718, and the Merdeka B package with 20 PCs and 1 billing system, valued at $13,514.

Both packages are equipped with the Dell Optiplex 320; the company's entry-line range.

The offer also includes pre-installed Open Source software, a pre-installed Windows Operating System and is covered by a one-year guarantee.(09)
