Govt hopes China build automotive industry in Indonesia

Jakarta (Antara News) - The Indonesian government hopes that major Chinese companies which are holding a machinery and electronic exhibition here would build an industrial base in Indonesia for their machinery, automotive and electronic products.

"We want to invite investors to develop a manufacturing base in Indonesia, and we would give them equal treatment," Director General for Transportation Equipment and Telematics (IATT) Budi Darmadi said after opening a China Machinery & Electronic Trade Exhibition here on Thursday.

He said the government hoped that the big Chinese companies which already had local partners to assemble and market their products in Indonesia, would make Indonesia as their production base.

A total of 54 large Chinese companies are taking part in the exhibition. The director general said that it would benefit them only if they build a production base in Indonesia, particularly in the face of the ASEAN-China free trade in 2012.

China`s investment in Indonesia in the 2001 - 2006 period totalled 600 million US dollars, consisting of 310 projects.

The 54 companies displaying their products came from 14 provinces in China.

The Chinese companies included Chery Auto Co (automotive), Great Wall Auto (cars), Foton (trucks), Liugong and YTO (tractors), Ningbo Haitian Plastic Machinery Group Co (injection printing machines) and Yancheng Machine Tool Co Ltd (lathes).(*)
