RI`s economy will not change much, says observer

Jakarta (Antara News) - The Indonesian economy will not change much following the cabinet reshuffle announced on Monday as the government`s economic team has remained the same, economic observer Ichsanuddin Noorsy said here Monday.

"I call it a half-hearted reshuffle and it (the reshuffle) will result in continuing unemployment," Noorsy said, adding that he feared the economic team in the current cabinet would continue the economic system of the New Order era which upheld the macro economy which was against the people`s interest.

"It means that President SBY (Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) maintains unemployment, and tends to favor the market, not the people," he said.

Noorsy had previously said if the president wanted to act in the people`s interest, he should have replaced 14 cabinet ministers dealing with economic affairs.

Meanwhile, another economic observer who is also chairman of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance Indonesia (Indef), Fadhil Hasan, said there should not be too much hope among the people that the Indonesian economy would improve.

Any economic change that might happen would only be oriented to the macro economy, he said, adding that the matter the government should have heeded was how to take advantage of the stable conditions to bring about the real sector`s recovery.

He said the real and infrastructure sectors should be improved soon to boost the country`s economic growth.(*)
