ain't no culture on JakChat.

if you really want to know about the way javanese think of themselves -- as opposed to the other 120 million indonesians -- then read first few chapters of this book:

Franz Magnis-Suseno (1997), Javanese Ethics and World-view: the Javanese Idea of the Good Life, PT Gramedia, Jakarta.

basically a rehash of writings of ben anderson and cliff geertz, and possibly a little dated now, but still relevant if you wish to understand the psyche and psychoses of the javanese.

Tell me about you. What are you like? Do you work, go to school? What are your hobbies. What's your favorite food? What do you do for leisure? What town do you live? and tell me something about it. This would be very helpful for me because, I really don't have time to travel there because my assignment is due next Monday.

smile fair go, captian! i've never thought of the javanese as lazy (if indeed that was what you were inferring) ... sure, they lack motivation, they aren't proactive, they are often undereducated and underskilled; but i really don't think they are lazy!

Actually you are right - it is just a question of motivation , and when it comes to lugging round lumps of concrete in 34C temperatures , then I suppose I would too take some motivating , especially when my gaji was a bowl of rice a day .

Sometimes actually they can be a good deal more "skilled" than their western counterparts.

Happy early birthday to you. I was looking at the receipe for rujak, do you include kedonong? If so, describe how it taste.
Tell me about your culture or the life styles there. What is the population of Jakarta? Are there any environmental problems such as quality of water, pollution. What is the most celebrated event? What is your religion?
