Tempo Interactive, Jakarta: PT Microsoft Indonesia will offer the latest Windows Vista and Microsoft Office software with discounts of up to 80 percent off market prices.

This offer will be proposed during the tenders for software procurement that will be held at every regional government.

Ari Kunwidodo, PT Microsoft Indonesia’s Vice President, said the offer was in line with Microsoft’s commitment to the government.

This commitment was included in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was made at the end of November last year on software legalization for computers at all government institutions.

Microsoft, said Ari, will also provide support in terms of the latest software or upgrading without any additional costs for a total of three years.

“We will not change the commitment,” he Ari in Jakarta yesterday (11/4).

Currently Windows Vista has been distributed in 70 countries in 18 languages and it is planned that the Indonesian version will be made available in June this year.

However, so far the government has not yet been able to hold any software procurement tenders.

According to Alexander Ruli, an advisor to the Information and Communication Minister, the tenders will only be held after the government acquires data regarding software usage through censuses being carried out by regional governments.

Currently, he said, the central government is formulating the census guide for regional governments, including the amount of census funding and software purchases budget.

The funds for software purchases will later be distributed from the central government to regional governments.

Therefore, Alexander said the setting of the tenders will also be made once the funds proposed in the Revised State Budget are approved by Parliament.

“We’ve also already presented a request for funding to Parliament,” he said.

If the budget is approved, Alexander estimates that the tender process can begin in September.
