RNI, Russian Investor to Modernize Power Plant

State-owned sugar producer PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI) will team up with Russian partner JC Prom Sviaz Automatika to modernize its bagasse-fuelled power plant in Indramayu, West Java, Asia Pulse reported on Monday (5/2/07).

The capacity of the power plant located near the Jati Tujuh sugar factory of RNI, will be expanded from 5 MW at present to 20 MW in 2008. The $22 million project will utilize 215,000 tons of bagasse waste from the sugar factory every year, RNI director Son Ramadir said.

The Russian company will invest $18 million in the project to increase the capacity of its turbine and generator. The power generated by the plant will be partly used by the sugar factory and the rest will be sold to state-owned electricity company PLN.
