Surakarta immigrations arrests Egyptian for misusing visa

Solo, Central Java (Antara News) - The Surakarta Immigraion office has arrested and detained Muhammed El A Treiri, 19, an Egyptian national, for misusing his visa, Surakarta Immigration Office chief Tubagus Gandarsa said here on Thursday.

"The Egyptian national was put in an immigration cell on Wednesday (Jan 31). The questioning is not yet over because the case also implicates an Indonesian named Achmad Sayuti," Tubagus said.

He said Muhammed had misused his social visit visa in addition to the fact that his visa had expired since July 12, 2003.

According to Tubagus, Muhammed who entered Indonesia through Soekarno-Hatta airport in Cengkareng on May 13, 2003, had misused his visa by working as a teacher of English and Arabic. He also married a Javanese girl in Solo, Central Java, with whom he had a daughter.

He arrived in Indonesia with a visa bearing the number B.421 No.64.84/2003/240 issued in Cairo on April 29, 2003 which expired on July 12, 2003.

The Egyptian national was arrested when he was teaching English and Arabic in a shop-house, near Surakarta`s Muhammadiyah University.

Muhammed`s activity violated articles 50, 52 and 53 of the Immigration Law which carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison or may cause him to be deported. (*)

Hope Muhammed married the Indo girl because he loved her ( I had my doubt). Hope she didn't get left out in the dust, raising the child alone while he smoked his pipe in Cairo.
I think the Immigration office should hold him accountable for his child and wife (don't let him get off the hook).
What do you all think about this situation?

Careful Kuku. TB will tell you not to judge everyone by the actions of a few smile smile smile

I realised your point straight away - bet he teaches more than just Arabic. "And yous connect these wires here to this Semtex like this".....

But that is a generalisation and I am sure he is just a top guy who loves the social life in Solo......

well, it's just not the fact that the guy was an egyptian in solo. the fact that this matter even made it into the media is odd in itself. immigration *always* handles cases of overstay behind closed doors; basically, they extract as much money out of you as possible before deporting you. SOP.

so what happened in this case? why is this news?

Inquisitive mind Kuku...I think PB may be right (this guy taught more than Arabic). Imagine this on JP "Most wanted on the FBI list found in Surakarta"

Kuku wrotes: "immigration *always* handles cases of overstay behind closed doors."

Not always so. Journalists can be bought off afterwards and the story dies. No follow ups on this ....

Foreigners to be deported from Sulawesi

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi

Three British citizens apparently working on a coral reef rehabilitation project that also involves the Indonesian government, are to be deported from Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi for allegedly violating immigration rules, an official said Wednesday.

Ade Dachlan, head of the Southeast Sulawesi immigration office, said that the trio, identified as OSR, 53, BJV, 42, and JRP, 43, had violated Law No. 9/1991 on immigration.

He said the three were now under the supervision of BP Wallacea, an environmental institution that had sponsored them entering Indonesia. They were not allowed to engage in any activities as they awaited deportation, he said.

Dachlan said they had been staying in Kendari for about two years.

He deplored the fact that, “based on our evidence and information from witnesses, these British citizens have conducted a number of activities outside the programs of BP Wallacea.”

“According to the terms of their visas, they are only allowed to work for Wallacea. In fact, they worked for a coral reef rehabilitation project ... meaning that they have violated the terms of their visas,” Dachlan said.

The project is understood to involve the government and a private company.

Though the development of the ocean's natural resources in South Sulawesi province indeed needed foreign aid, companies must follow existing procedures and regulations, Dachlan said, adding the trio would be deported soon.

Meanwhile, a 36 year-old Indian national was arrested on Monday by Banggai district police in Central Sulawesi for overstaying.

Central Sulawesi immigration office spokesman Eko Supriyanto said Sunil Dutt, an Indian citizen, had expired documentation.

“Both his passport and visa have expired, and in accordance with the Indonesian immigration regulations, the Indian has to be deported,” Supriyanto added.
