Trend for 3G Telephone Sales to IncreaseThursday, 11 January, 2007 | 16:43 WIB
Tempo Interactive, Jakarta: The sales trend of third generation (3G) technology-based cellular phones is predicted to continue to increase this year.
Based on Tempo monitoring at the largest telephone sales center ITC Roxy Mas, West Jakarta, and at Ambassador Mall, Kuningan, South Jakarta, 3G cellular phones are still attractive to buyers.
In addition, 3G cellular phones, which were first available on the domestic market almost two years ago, are more diverse in terms of price as well as models and functions.
Some are for sale at more than Rp4 million and there are others that cost even more than Rp6 million.
But consumers can also obtain 3G phones for less than Rp2 million each.
Two phone manufacturers, Nokia and Sony Ericsson, compete tightly in this latest generation cellular phone market.
Alam, a telephone shop owner in ITC Roxy Mas, acknowledged he can sell 100 3G cellular phones units per month on average.
During the last few months, the demand has even been increasing.
Abun, another shop owner in Roxy Mas, said consumers' interest in the newest generation technology based cellular phones at his kiosk amounted to 70 percent of total sales, both new and second-hand.
