Indonesian cellphone cos to spend US$4 bln for expansion in 2007

Jakarta (Antara News/Asia Pulse) - Nine cellular operators in Indonesia are projected to spend almost US$4 billion in 2007 mainly to expand their coverage in the country.

The number of cellular phone subscribers is predicted to rise 25 per cent-30 per cent or
28.85 million to 76 million in 2007, the cellular telecommunications association (ATSI) said. In 2006, the number of subscribers is estimated to rise by 15 million.

The country's largest cellular phone operator PT Telkomsel, which had 32.5 million subscribers by November 2006, plans to spend Rp14.3 trillion in 2007.
