BPPT, PLN to hold trial of cars running on biofuel

Jakarta (Antara News) - The National Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) in cooperation with state electricity company PT PLN will be testing cars running on biofuel, an official said.

The trial run will start in Banda Aceh on December 12 and finish in Jakarta on December 21, BBPT deputy head of Information Technology, Energy and Material Affairs division Marzan Aziz Iskandar said here Friday.

The trial period dubbed Palm Oil Expedition, will involve three Toyota Dyna trucks and three Toyota Innova vans whose engines had been modified for use of biofuel.

Each of the three Toyota Dyna trucks will use 100 pct biofuel, 90 percent biofuel and 10 percent palm oil, and 50 percent biofuel and 50 percent palm oil.

Meanwhile, each of the three Toyota Innova vans will use 100 percent biofuel, 95 percent biofuel plus 5 percent palm oil, and 70 percent biofuel plus 30 percent palm oil.

BPPT`s Energy Resources Development Technology Center director Unggul Priyanto said the decision on the Banda Aceh - Jakarta route was made as Sumatra is known as the country`s largest oil palm plantation area.

Palm Oil Expedition committee will prepare 5,000 liters of diesel oil and 650 liters of palm oil for the expedition. (*)
