VP supports trade procedures for music industry

Jakarta (Antara News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla expressed his support to the issuance of government regulation on trade procedures for the music industry to protect composers' copy rights.

"Kalla warmly welcome our proposal for the issuance of a government regulation on trade procedures for the musical industry, which focuses more on the control of recorded musical products in Indonesia," General Chairman of Indonesian Singers, Song Writers and Recorded Music Arrangers (PAPPRI) Association Dharma Oratmangun said after meeting with Jusuf Kalla at the latter`s office here on Thursday.

According to him, the proposal for government regulation was made after studying the complaints from the musical industry which often felt uneasy with of copy right violations.

In addition, the government regulation can also be used to overcome a leakage of state revenues often manipulated by certain elements of musical industry.

Therefore, the fourth PAPPRI congress to be opened on December 11, 2006, will highlight the Restructuring of Trade Procedures for Indonesian Music. (*)

...and it's about time... Can you guess how long it will take before the composers and songwriters can actualy notice a difference? But well, it's a step in the right direction.
