Shoppers may be surprised to see huge photos of Hollywood personalities like Jackie Chan and Richard Gere displayed in the atrium at Senayan City when they stroll through the new shopping mall on Dec. 1 through 17.

They may also come across photos of Aishwarya Rai, Christine Hakim, Zhang Ziyi or perhaps, Andy Lau.

The photos are the works of Russel Wong, the renowned celebrity photographer. They are being displayed in a photo exhibition as part of the 8th Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest), which will take place from Dec. 8 through Dec. 17.

"We want to make people aware of JiFFest. The photo exhibition is part of our campaign," JiFFest director Orlow Seunke told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

Along with the works of Russel Wong, three Indonesian photographers will also display their "behind-the-scenes" images. They are Erik Nurhikmat, Firdausi and Paul Kadarusman.

Erik will present still photos from Lentera Merah while Firdausi and Paul will show their work from Serambi and Realita Cinta dan Rock'n Roll, respectively.

The exhibition will be held at Atrium Senayan City (Dec. 1 through 3), lower ground floor Senayan City (Dec. 4 through 17), eX Plaza Indonesia, Djakarta Theater and InterContinental Hotel (Dec. 8 through 17).

"With this exhibition, we are also trying to stimulate Indonesian photographers to learn from Russel Wong," Orlow said.

Apart from the photo exhibition, JiFFest organizers will also stage Film Music in Concert at the atrium Plaza Senayan on Dec. 1 through 3.

At this event, shoppers can see famous Charlie Chaplin silent films set to music by acclaimed Indonesian musicians Dwiki Dharmawan, Jaya Suprana and Thoersi Argeswara.

DJ Hogi will mix his sounds for some of Chaplin's best shorts.

The event will also include a performance by Willem Breuker Kollektief jazz band from the Netherlands. With more than 30 years on the road, the band will play music to accompany a classic horror interpretation of F.W. Murnau's Faust.

Dwiki will play at 5 p.m. Friday. He will accompany Chaplin's The Circus.

Thoersi and Jaya Suprana will perform Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Both will start at 3 p.m. DJ Hogi will perform at 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Dutch band will perform Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting at 7 p.m.

"We are grateful to the Dutch Embassy for bringing the jazz band here," Orlow said, adding that the JiFFest team would also distribute brochures and sell tickets at the event.
