Indonesia, US to cooperate in biofuel development - Yudhoyono

Jakarta (Antara News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the Indonesian and the US governments have agreed to cooperate in the development of biofuel to enable the two countries to become less dependent on oil.

"On energy, we (Indonesia and US) are going to cooperate in biofuel development. The US government is ready share technologies and other matters related to the development of alternative energy," Yudhoyono said during a joint media briefing with the US President George W. Bush late last night.

Bush said it is in the world's interest to develop alternative sources of energy.

"For security and economic purposes, America must spend research money to enable us to have alternative sources of energy. I'm committed to sharing technologies as they develop, to help us all become less dependent on oil," Bush was quoted by XFN Asia as saying.

The US president was in Indonesia for six hours after attending the APEC summit in Hanoi, Vietnam. (*)
