[x] [KuKuKaChu] internet connections suck lately

[x] [Balibob] 3 days now no Internet from Kablevision I had enough of this crap,. offto to Bali

[x] [riccardo] bob, what's the internet situation in bali, do you also have broadband there?

[x] [riccardo] Kabelvision in my area JakBar was out 5 days last month, they were re-wiring or something. sounds like they are doing the same in JakSel.

[x] [riccardo] but it took us 10 phone calls for them to tell us that

[x] [KuKuKaChu] bali's even worse.

[x] [riccardo] So is it only dial up in bali
[x] [riccardo] ?

[x] [KuKuKaChu] i need my own satellite
[x] [KuKuKaChu] there's wireless broadband

[x] [riccardo] centrin is offering a new satellite deal for 7jt/month is that a decent price, sounds outrageous for just a single household connection

[x] [KuKuKaChu] might not be outrageous if you can share the conneciton

[x] [riccardo] no wonder the Indonesian rural areas are the most backward in eastern Asia

[x] [riccardo] they need to *give* a connection like that to every kepala desa

[x] [riccardo] and every school or this country is going to LOSE in this brave new globalized world

[x] [riccardo] Thailand, viet, RP, Malaysia, china, India all have strong IT infrastructure in villages

[x] [riccardo] I'd like to set up a guest-house/cafe on a beach like Pelabuhanratu, but w/o web access no can do!

[x] [Balibob] Ric where I am in Bali there is No internet but I use my HP and GPRS for connection which is very good, telkon Speedy is available in the towns but only 384 kbs service and that is 350,000Rps a month, I will install a satellite at my place next year

[x] [Balibob] coat of equip is US$ 4,500 and ISP cost is US$ 300 from Hawai

Here in the UK i pay £10 (about Rp170,000) for a 2mb connection.

And now they want to give me a free upgrade to 4mb for the same price.

clearly it depends upon where you are ... i use cbn via kabelvision, and have no significant problems with my 8 user LAN accessing one 128K connection.

speedy seems to be far more problematic. and very, very expensive!

if only i had my own satellite; all my problems would be over ...

Speedy sucks... maybe if you don't know better it's not so bad, but I'm use to have the new window to open when I click on a link, not 30 secs later... and what about 2 hours to send a file? Jesus... but hey... like everybody's telling me when I start complaining, "welcome to Indonesia"

only 8 hours fuuuuuuuck u lucky,... I gotta small program in our server that logs the times (hrs, mins.secs) that speedy is down and at the end of the month I deduct from Telkoms bill the loss and back it up by sending them a copy of the log,...........they have never complained yet and never cut me off,.. Intentionally!!!
