This should be interesting. Especially the part about Mideast Peace. How can RI be involved in bringing peace when it has no relations with Israel?? There may indeed be requirement for RI to establish relations with Israel first. THat should make all the Jihad boys real happy...!

Indonesia Hails Its Entry To UN Security Council

JAKARTA (AP)--Indonesia welcomed news Tuesday that it won Asia's non-permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council, and vowed to use the position to push for Middle East peace.

"The decision to give a seat to Indonesia was the result of an intense lobbying effort," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Desra Percaya, adding that it proved the world's most populous Muslim nation has "the confidence of the international community."

The 15-member council has five veto-wielding permanent members - the U.K., China, France, Russia and the U.S. - and 10 other non-permanent seats that are filled by regional groups for two-year stretches.

Indonesia's main competition to represent Asia was Nepal, following South Korea's withdrawal from the race several weeks ago.

Rezlan I. Jenie, Indonesia's permanent representative to the U.N. in New York, told The Jakarta Post that one of his nation's main goals for 2007-2008 will be to push for peace in the Middle East.

Indonesia has long supported Palestinian independence efforts and doesn't have diplomatic relations with Israel. [size:14pt][/size]
