Food demand is an absolute need, hence it is an important priority in the national development, said President at an interview with farmers and Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM) in Rejo Agung Village, Semboro, Jember, East Java, Sunday (8/10) afternoon
“Since Indonesia’s independence until now, the target of our development is to increase people’s prosperity from time to time,” said the President SBY. “In the future, agriculture development have should be more intensive, precise and Insya Allah successful. It will be a beautiful dream if the target and dream of the year 2009 or 2010, Indonesia is in abundance of rice, maize, sugar, beef, and soy,” added by President.
According to President, if five of the essential needs can be fulfilled, hence in the future there won’t be any worry that Indonesian people will be in food insufficiency. “There won’t be any debate about the necessity and un-necessity of rice import, because those needs have been fulfilled,” said President before about three thousand farmers who came from subdistrict Semboro and its surroundings.
“East Java becomes the food granary, I am very proud. Hopefully it can be followed by other regions,” he said. “Let us all try to improve the agriculture development, but without destroying the environment. We will get sin if we continuously cleanse the natural resources, because our offspring will suffer,” exclaimed by President SBY.
President SBY gave an example that a lot of state in which its agriculture succeeds but its farmers don’t. “Let us make an evaluation. We wish our agriculture and plantation grow better but our farmer also have to be upraised and more prosperous,” President exclaimed and then acclaimed by the attendants. The matter becomes the responsibility of Regional Government, Central Government and all Indonesian people to realize the prosperity.
Besides Mrs. Ani, President was also acompanied by Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Aburizal Bakrie, Minister of Social Affairs Bachtiar Camsyah, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Minister of Public Works Djoko Kirmanto, Minister for Acceleration of Development in Backward Regions Saifulah Yusuf, Minister Of Religious Affairs Maftuh Basyuni, Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Military Secretary Bambang Soetedjo, Governor of East Java and his lady Mrs. Imam Utomo, Special Staff Yenni Wahid, Head of Presidential Household Ahmad Rusdi and Presidential Spokesman Andi Mallarangeng.
