Bank BRI to allocate Rp13 trillion for biofuel plantation program

Jakarta (Antara News) - Publicly-listed Bank BRI will finance a biofuel plantation program with Rp13 trillion in the second semester of 2006 after the national bank allocated Rp6 trillion to Rp7 trillion for the scheme in the first semester, its director Sulaiman Arief Arianto said.

"The funds for the biodiesel program will be derived from BRI`s outstanding credits totalling Rp82 trillion or about 30 percent of its total credit," he said here Wednesday.

Despite BRI`s commitment to helping develop biofuel, the bank continued focusing its core business on small-and medium-scale businesses, he said.

Sulaiman expressed optimism that all concerned state enterprises would support the biofuel plantation development program.

He also said BRI did not have any problem with the maximum lending limit as there was no bank customers violation except those within the bank`s subsidiaries and cooperation with other companies.

BRI`s loans-to-deposits ratio (LDR) was still high, namely, 76 percent, he said.

Sulaiman said BRI had already issued credit cards to its employees and about 26,000 customers as of last June and targeted an increase to 50,000 cards late this year. (*)
