Indosat Passes 3G Test

Tempo Interactive, Jakarta: PT Indonesian Satellite Corporation (Indosat) passed the operational acceptance test for the third generation cellular telecommunication (3G) in the Jakarta area, yesterday (25/9).

Kaizad B. Heerjee, Deputy President Director of Indosat, said Indosat will soon launch the 3G service commercially at the end of this year.

For the preliminary stage, Indosat’s 3G service will be available in Jakarta and Surabaya.

Indonesia has prepared 300 b nodes—that is, base transceiver station for the 3G service—in Jakarta and Surabaya and has conducted a trial service in the two cities since August 2005.

Wityasmoro Sih Handayanto, Indosat’s Regional Sales Director, said Indosat will launch the 3G service in November 2006.

Indosat completed the operational acceptance test for 250 b nodes in Jakarta on September 19.
