Pertamina to import 7.5 mln barrels of fuel/month in June, July

Jakarta (Antara News)</b> - State oil-and-gas firm PT Pertamina plans to import 7.5 mln barrels of fuel a month in June and July, slightly higher than the 7.4 mln barrels planned for this month, marketing director Achmad Faisal said.

"The current stock is at a safe level," Faisal was quoted by XFN-Asia as saying.

The fuel products to be imported will be strictly premium gasoline and diesel fuel.

Starting this month, Pertamina has halted kerosene imports amid sufficient supply from local refineries and high stock levels, besides the fact that government is urging consumers to replace kerosene use with LPG, which is non-subsidized.

Since September 2005, the overall realized imports of fuel products have dropped significantly from 17 mln barrels a month to 12 mln in December.

It fell further to 8.4 mln in January, and hit its lowest of 6.4 mln in March, before picking up to 7.6 mln barrels in April due to the shutdown of one unit at Dumai refinery for maintenance work.

Pertamina has said earlier that nationwide fuel stock was enough for 20-22 days or 3.4 mln kiloliters. Meanwhile, daily consumption reached 110,000 kiloliters or 32.9 pct below target. (*)
