ABU DHABI — The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, held talks here yesterday at the Al Mushref Palace with Indonesian President Sisolo Bambang Yodhoyono, who is currently on a visit to the UAE.
Shaikh Khalifa expressed his hope for stronger relations between the two countries in various fields.
He reiterated the UAE’s commitment to boost relations with Indonesia, particularly in the economic and trade areas by activating trade and boosting investment between the two sides. He said the exchange of official visit of economic and business delegations from both countries would go a long way in further boosting ties between the two countries and taking them to a higher level and open more avenues of cooperation and coordination between them.
The Indonesian president praised the UAE for achieving great developments in all fields under the wise leadership of President Shaikh Khalifa. He expressed his country’s great interest in opening more avenues of cooperation and investment with the UAE, which, he said, enjoys liberal economy and is open to international market.
Yodhoyono said his country’s great interest in boosting ties with the UAE stemmed from its deep belief that the UAE is an important regional hub for trade and investment in the Middle East region and an attractive spot for capital flow from all over the world, citing the absolute security and stability which the UAE enjoys in all fields.
The Indonesian president expressed his profound gratitude to the UAE for the timely and valuable assistance it gave to Indonesia in the aftermath of the Tsunami disaster. He expressed the hope that his visit to the UAE and meeting with the UAE President would produce something good in the interest of the peoples of the two countries. The two leaders shared ideas on a number of issues and developments in the light of the current developments on the regional and international scenes.
At the end of the meeting, Shaikh Khalifa hosted in honour of his guest and his accompanying delegation a luncheon which was attended by a number of dignitaries.
Meanwhile, Yudhoyono, in an exclusive statement to the Emirates News Agency, praised President Shaikh Khalifa for his wise policies citing his support for issues of development, peace and stability in the region.
He said the UAE, under the leadership of Shaikh Khalifa, was among the first to reach out to the Indonesian people, during the time of the disaster that struck the country, to alleviate the sufferings of the people. He cited some of the UAE’s landmark assistance to his country as including the Emirates Village, the Shaikh Zayed City in Aceh, which he said is under construction as 469 housing units are being built for those who lost their houses during the Tsunami, adding that the Indonesian government deeply believes that the Indonesian people would always remember those noble humanitarian assistance the UAE gave to them.
