well, after a relatively short period of "prohibition", wine and liqueurs have returned to the shelves of Hero supermarket in Sarinah.

so, what gives? the law certainly hasn't changed... perhaps more liberal interpretations are being applied? perhaps governor Sutiyoso has seen that his fundamentalist PKS mates are on the decline in terms of influence, and he's cutting them loose?

not that i care for myself -- i'm a teetotaller -- but there is no shortage of people in jakarta for whom wine in particular is a part of their lifestyle.

It's about business, the prohibition law doesn't give the alternative to make money

Whats the whine about, alcohol percentage by volume! Shite, I always buy my Vodka at Hero's and they have always had stock! Carefour got a bit cagey on the subject, Kemchiks just ignored it.

Meanwhile, the so called "DUTY FREE" shops just increased their prices!

My motto - If it does not have beer, don't go there!

personnally I hate beer. Yukky. But I do loike a cheap donelli lambrusco mixed with a bit of no frills cola-sangria on the cheap LOL.
Dont like white wine either.
I always get given bottles of wine through work
but I always just give them away.Husband doesnt drink-he cannot, hes got some kind of enzyme missing or whatsoever. In his mums house they have plenty of chinese rice wine-but I guess its only for cooking. They do like their cognac though isnt it!
The one presents we must always take for the factory staff is chocolates that have liquer in them. They love them!

I don't like beer too.

But it's ok for wine, vodka, tequilla and have them sometimes, make me sleep well.

Ruby, avoid this “I need a drink to help me sleep” logic.

I had an ex wife who was like this. It leads to alcoholism and health problems.

You find you need more alcohol each night, and the alcohol dehydrates you at the time you can least afford it. You wake up feeling like shit. Your skin dries up. Wrinkles develop. You age…

If you cannot sleep do some hard exercise. Much better for a young girl like you.

My wife picked up a couple of bottles of wine at Hero in Taman Anggrek, and asked the manager about it, to which he replied that they'd been "allowed" to sell their remaining stocks of wine, which had been collecting dust in warehouses. Also, Giant Hypermart (owned by the Hero group) is doing the same thing.

I got a nice bottle of nice Chardonnay at the Soekarno-Hatta duty free, (last-chance duty free shop in baggage pick-up area) for an amazing price of USD $5.50! But, of course, duty free shops are allowed by law to sell it.

Not only wine, and not only Hero, but the Ranch Market near my house has brought back all their hard liquor/spirits. RIGHTEOUSNESS!
