In todays Jakarta Post, Mr. Pitchfork described JakChat as a blog which is worth a viewing because of it's, shall we say commentaries!

Batten down the hatches!

No need to get excited. Who reads The Sunday Post, apart from, it would appear, Dilli? With the exception of Pitchfork’s column, it is complete toilet paper. A joke.

if it were not for simon's column, the Sunday Post would be an utter waste. calling it toilet paper is giving it too much credence. at least toilet paper is useful.

many people don't know just how limited The Jakarta Post's circulation is: i think it's only around 25,000, which is about the same as a suburban throwaway in Australia. god knows what pitiful number the Sunday Post gets. compare that with Kompas, which has a readership of many millions per day.

the only value of The Jakarta Post is as a conduit into the diplomatic community, which is why it is so tame. it functions as a semi-independent voice of the government.

indonesia really does need an independent english-language daily ...
