How do you thimk Indonesia is going to enforce their perceived "Pornography" Law when all I see at night breaches the views of the Morality Police, I mean, get real, the girls dress up in their finest glad rags, OK, showing a little bit of flesh, however, thats what Cosmo & all the other glam mags sell as fashion. Girl's - do you want to waer what you want or do you want it to be like Saudi where "Nice Ankle" is about as sexy as you can get?

Keep it real girls, we like the way you dress now!

I think (in my humble opinion) that there is considerable pressure from Islamic fundamentalists to change a lot of things in Indonesia. The Playboy saga is just the latest in a long line of changes.....

The raid on the 5 plus 1 is a huge shock to me. That was a real institution....

I have said elsewhere, Indonesia is rapidly going down the path Malaysia went down a few years ago...

I guess its nothing to do with me, I am just an occasional guest......

I disagree with the law. There are many things more important to care about than just the way we (women) should wear. Think about the hunger and poor people, think about landslide and environment, etc, etc. Now we can only show and feel sexy in closed room frown

And so to bed, up in the morning, bright eyed and bushy tailed at 4:30 AM for another joy filled day of harnessing the world's energy resources, if only that effin lizard outside my bedroom window would stop screeching all night. I've heard that they bring good luck, however they are noisy bastards,,,

I'm so out of the political scene in Indo, without making further smart-arse comments, can anyone tell me what the essence of the Bill itself? Is it just showing a bit of flesh in the navel area, above ankle, a bit of cleavage?...Y'know that sorta things.

Y'know, for a country that still allows under-age girl to get married, it's putting up law to invade into it's citizen private life.

Flesh gets the flick in Indonesian porn war

Risque art, Playboy and sunbathing tourists could fall victim to new laws as Jakarta cleans up its act.

ROCKING in a pink swing fashioned from a pedal-driven rickshaw, Agus Suwage felt at peace. He had just installed his Pinkswing Park exhibit at Jakarta's international biennale.

Surrounded by massive panels with pictures of a near-naked man and woman frolicking in a utopian park, he felt a world away from religious furore, public condemnation and possible incarceration.

But within days of the exhibition's launch last November, Islamic fundamentalists had shoved Suwage to the forefront of their struggle to redefine Indonesia. They had descended on the biennale, forcing its closure and demanding prosecutions.

At first police claimed his work blasphemed the story of Adam and Eve, then last week told Suwage he faced five years in jail for producing pornography.

The same groups staging violent demonstrations against the West over cartoons of Prophet Muhammad are targeting pornography in their battle to transform Indonesia into a strict Islamic nation. And they are winning, with the parliament set to introduce a sweeping anti-pornography law.

Expected to be passed by June, the law imposes a rigid social template; couples who kiss in public will face up to five years' imprisonment, as would anyone flaunting a "sensual body part" including their navel and tight clothing would be outlawed. Most women's groups are horrified, entertainment industries believe it could destroy them and Bali's embattled tourism authorities are alarmed at the prospect of sunbathers being arrested.

Mainstream Islamic organisations are warning of moral decay and backing the bill, while politicians, wary of alienating Indonesia's vast Muslim majority, are condoning the growing anti-porn movement.

Plans to introduce Playboy's soft-core porn to the Indonesian market next month have become another focus of rowdy demonstrations, with protesters portraying the magazine as a symbol of the decadent West's attack on Islam. Playboy's publishers are proposing a bizarre compromise, saying no naked women will be featured. Indonesians will be able to say they buy it only for the articles.

In Jakarta, police have seized hundreds of thousands of "erotic" magazines and DVDs following an edict from police chief Sutanto to "eradicate pornography". Anything showing flesh seems to qualify, even copies of Rolling Stone and FHM were seized from newsstands.

The Islamic Defenders Front spearheads the anti-porn protests. It took two days to track down its leader, Habib Riziek, this week. He was at police headquarters, seeking information about "his men" arrested for allegedly attacking the US embassy in Jakarta last week.

He says that porn, including artworks such as Suwage's, contributes to moral delinquency. "We don't care about the technicality of the picture. What we care is that the picture is publicly exhibited and it is pornography and it would damage morals."

Suwage believes his work captured attention because one of the models, Anjasmara, is a popular soapie star. The two models, photographer Davy Linggar and the curator of the biennale, Jim Supangkat, are also facing criminal charges.

Supangkat declined to be interviewed and Suwage is increasingly bitter at his reaction to the protest. After hundreds of demonstrators had descended on the exhibition, a panicked Supangkat ordered the offending panels to be covered with white cloth. Other artists draped their own works in solidarity and Supangkat closed the biennale, permanently.

Suwage believes his prosecution is linked to pressure to pass the anti-porn law and the desire of fundamentalists to impose Islamic rule.

Afraid of prison, Suwage says he is determined to fight. "Maybe it's good for me and Davy to become the victims, may- be we need martyrs," he said.

Based out of a small cafe gallery in Jakarta's backpacker precinct, Suwage and a motley collective or artists are mobilising against the new law. "From this case, we make a manifesto for art against the pornography bill," he said. "It's very dangerous for freedom of expression but it also threatens other aspects of society."

Balkan Kaplale heads the parliamentary committee finalising the pornography bill and is confident it will become law this year. It would halt the publication of magazines such as Playboy, he said.

" Playboy would place a time bomb in Indonesia. What guarantee is there it would not arrive in the hands of our children? Playboy is American magazine. Please, don't play this game with Indonesians, we have dignity."

If the reports are right (and the media seldom get it right) the situation is:

By June, kissing in public, wearing short skirts, tight trousers or top, bare midrif, shorts, will all attract the potential of 5 years in jail.

I had been warning about this for the last 4 years.....

within another 4 years, you will be arrested for not covering your head. All alcohol will be banned. Women will not be allowed to drive cars. Wait and see.....

Well let me tell you, once the average australian girl learns that she is risking 5 years in a Bali jail for baring her midrif, or wearing shorts, or even a swimsuit, she wont be visiting Bali...

say goodbye to your tourist economy frown

Meanwhile Muslim men keep arriving in Australia and are now demanding the same Sharia laws here frown

Four out of 10 British Muslims want sharia law introduced into parts of the country, a survey reveals today.

The ICM opinion poll also indicates that a fifth have sympathy with the "feelings and motives" of the suicide bombers who attacked London last July 7, killing 52 people, although 99 per cent thought the bombers were wrong to carry out the atrocity

April 2005: MUSLIM leaders want to set up a separate Islamic court in Australia to deal specifically with Islamic divorces.
The radical idea was raised by Muslim leaders in a meeting with Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Minister Peter McGauran last week.

Mainly Pakistanis - they wanted British rule in India to end. Then all moved to Britain. frown

But they now hold citizenship, and have a vote. They are breeding faster than "white" Bristish, and within 25 years will have a moajority. Then they will enforce full Islamic law in my homelands. frown frown frown

Same in Australia. Thousands of muslims arrive here every day, all holding a visa. Pretty soon they will take control. frown

The sad thing is (and I am not trying to be rude) that EVERY Islamic country I have ever visited has been a total shambles. Corruption, stupidity, violence.

What is happening in Indonesia is happening all over the world. the West is being over run, and we are heading into a new "Dark Age".
