The last spanduk - Young Happy - is the best!

Perhaps the best thing ever to appear on JakChat.

for the Bahasa Indonesia challenged:

Don't Vote for ME!!!
Because I
- am not a candidate
- like to con people
- have never done anything for the community
- break my promises
- am habitually corrupt
- very much respect corrupt people

Don't [contreng?!] No. 007 Young Happy [that's the fellow's name!] [dapil?!] Minangkabau

Seems this word contreng is causing anxiety with indonesians as well:

Quoting: http://www.blog.binder724studio.com/?p=420

[dapil?!] Minangkabau

dapil = daerah pemilihan = constituency or electoral district.

Contreng (ticking [a ballot box]) is the modern alternative to coblos (putting a nail through [the party symbol/candidate pic on the ballot]).

Long gone are the days when Indonesian elections were this easy:

life was so simple then: red, yellow, or green. but if you know what's good for you, yellow.

Just like JakChat in fact. How about a change from yellow Ku? As an anti-Golkar gesture you'd have my full support. I vote for an earthy, shit brown user interface.

your pro-PKI sentiments are duly noted.

i'll be doing a message engine software upgrade for JakChat in the next few weeks, and may contemplate some colour/style changes at the same time.

Lovely!! Usable selectable colour option? Or is that too technical?

not at all too technical. it's possible now. problem is, i don't have time to do the work to set up style sheets for each base colour.

just before my morning bowel movement so feeling particularly anal.. "Suka Obral Janji"...IMO "suka" here is used more to mean "tends to" rather than "likes" or "enjoys" as in "Dia suka datang telat ke kantor" - He often comes late to the office/He tends to come late..while, Obral = a (bargain) sale or sell cheaply, meaning that in addition to his other attributes Young Happy "tends to make cheap promises"....

as for contreng see :: http://www.antara-sumbar.com/id/?mod=berita&d=1&id=15939

but it still doesn't explain the etymology of the word

I grovel pathetically beneath the weight of your superior semantics. And as for contreng, Tapol says it's a Javanese word:

Quoting: tapol
For the coming elections, voters will be
instructed to inscribe a tick (contreng). The new
method has been criticised by many parties
and commentators for several reasons. The
word ‘contreng’ is Javanese and is not
understood in many parts of the country.
Millions of people who are illiterate would have
difficulty using a pen or pencil; it would also be
more difficult for blind people. It is not yet clear
how the matter will be finally resolved.

Must be even more difficult for congenitally stupid people. And what about the carpentry-challenged? Bunging a nail through a piece of paper might be difficult for them too.

I say get people used to ticks, so in a couple of election cycles' time they can move on to an optional quota-preferential system. But even if you can't count or wield a pen, your old fashioned coblos should count for first preference.

The principle should be, make the best effort to determine the voter's intention, no matter what mark they use, as long as it's not ambiguous (ie in cases where the voter punches a hole in two or more candidates' boxes.)

Perhaps it's a McDonalds tie in. Nice choppers though.

Then of course there was this plucky display of female empowerment:
