Say it ain't so?

The government is considering allowing state firms in Bakrie's troubled group of companies.

This will be the third time the government would have bailed out Bakrie?

And for what?

Most likely campaign contributions.

If Yudhoyono approves the package, it will throw open the race for the presidency. Undecided voters account for 30 as much as percent of the electorate, and bailing out the unpopular mango face could very well be suicide.

Any thoughts?

Yes I almost shat when I saw that headline this morning. Bakrie gets his own private bail out package. SBY may be doing it for campaign funds but he'll lose the presidency at the ballot box. Bakrie's stocks are down 40%...fuck 'im. Either nationalize his assets and tell him to fuck off or let the markets batter him to death. Coordinating Minister for His Own Welfare.....We should go down to his business school and have a laugh.

If SBY does bail out that prick does that mean we are in for some fun and games during the election year? It only seemed like a few months ago we were talking of buoyant economic growth and a stable, boring election to follow. Now we face a run on the banks, economic meltdown, unstable elections and an inflated price of vodka.

You're all assuming those 30% actually read the paper, understand it, or give a shit. Conversations with my Indonesian graduate friends, including economics graduates, give me the impression most don't really understand what saham actually are, let alone nationalisation, etc.

P/E ratio? Earnings growth? I start out asking their advice and end up giving a high school economics class.

If only expats had the vote, the vodka shortage would be a deciding factor.
