Jakarta - Wesley Ernest Stabner resmi menjadi tersangka dalam kasus gondola jatuh di tower RCTI yang menewaskan 5 orang. Bule asal Kanada itu kini ditahan di Polres Jakarta Barat.

"Dari hasil pemeriksaan, dia adalah orang yang paling bertanggung jawab atas peristiwa itu. Dia adalah orang yang memimpin pekerjaan itu," kata Kapolres Jakarta Barat Kombes Iza Fadri kepada detikcom, Sabtu (30/8/2008).

Iza mengatakan, Wesly dijerat pasal 359 KUHP soal akibat kelalaian yang menyebabkan kematian seseorang. Pria 57 tahun itu diancam hukuman di atas 5 tahun penjara.

"Sementara dia kita jerat dengan pasal itu," kata Iza.

Iza mengatakan, Direktur PT Rhon Products Internasional Indonesia (RPII) itu adalah saksi kunci dari peristiwa yang terjadi Kamis 28 Agustus lalu. "Karena itu awalnya kita jadikan dia saksi," lanjutnya.(ken/ken)

Canadian detained over deadly Indonesia tower plunge: report
A Canadian citizen has been detained in Indonesia over the death of five workers after a maintenance platform plunged 50 metres (160 feet) from a television tower, a report said Saturday.

Wesley Ernest Stabner, 57, was declared a suspect over the Thursday incident in the Indonesian capital and has been detained awaiting trial, the wesbite of local daily Kompas said.

Stabner could face criminal negligence charges after allegedly advising workers carrying out maintenance on the transmission tower that the platform could safely hold five people, West Jakarta police chief Iza Fadri was quoted as saying.

Under Indonesian law, charges are not read to a suspect until the first trial hearing.

The Canadian citizen, who works for US-based company Rohn Products International, is in a state of shock over the deaths, Fadri said.
