Only 3 months? That's got to be a new speed record for them.

I got Fastnet @ home from FirstMedia for my internet and TV, and lord help you if you ever need to talk to customer support. Last time, the cable was out altogether for some reason, and the dolt I spoke to on the phone insisted I try clearing my browser cache.

Not to mention that I already told him twice that the TV was out, and the cable modem was out, and the lights that should be blinky were not blinky, up to the point I tried explaining the intricacies of, say, why clearing a browser cache won't do jack shit if the network itself isn't operational.

My girlfriend called back since my Bahasa Indonesia ain't all that good, and finally wrangled out an answer as to why the cable was out. I quote "an unauthorized person entered the data center and unplugged some cables".

Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick. I used to do sysadminning and network stuff for an ISP a couple of years ago, and this statement really just sort of left me speechless and weeping in a fetal position under my desk.

Other than that though, connectivity and speed thru FirstMedia are actually really good, if it works it's great, if it doesn't work, you want to go kill people frown

MC, I had the opposite, Cable TV was working but Fastnet was out and when I called I had 2 people tell me the opposite. Finally I cut the TV on walked over and put the phone next to the TV speaker. Of course they stopped telling me the TV was out but in fine First Media fashion never admitted that the Internet was out.........

I've had that one happen as well, I'm usually quite patient with helpdesks and such since I used to work on one in an age long long past, but FirstMedia's customer "service" is pretty much guaranteed to eat up my patience in 2 minutes flat. These days I have my gf call laugh She can hold her tongue for about 4 minutes before snappning, at which point a nicely fast-paced seriously snarky sounding stream of indonesian is aimed at the customer "service" person that she's talking to at that point.

It's kind of mean, we've got a little bet going as to who will be the first one to get one of them customer service people to start crying smirk

Perhaps extending your self-proclaimed patience a little bit may stand you in good stead Mr Cat. I am sure you are aware of the many differences between your home and country and Indonesia. Difficulties in communication are something most expats experience, i would guess. It is a shame that you have coerced your apparently local girlfriend into a juvenile game of ' who will snap first'. Why not try solving the problem alone, and learn something about the local business culture while at it ??
Regards
Richard

Richard, my girlfriend has a shorter fuse than I do -- compared to most bule's I've seen, I'm a shining beacon of patience, I just don't get along well with idiots. Whether it's Indonesia or Holland, I'll respond to helpdesk idiots in the exact same fashion -- why work on a helpdesk if you are unable to help?

And solving the problem alone, I've done that before, to the point where I was accused of causing the problem in the first place, only to later be told that it was their fault, that they made a really silly mistake, and so on. So that blew the one and only chance I tend to give to companies to make a good impression on me.

Oh and just so you know I'm an atheist, so please, no religious debates or I'm going to make you cry smile

I would doubt that very much Mr Cat. And by all means enjoy your weekend getting stressed out at anonymous helpdesk staff. I have a much more personal relationship with The Lord to spend my spare time savouring.

Madcat -- The only way I could get any sort of service from "customer service" at Fastnet was by email the president director of fastnet. Amazing two weeks of frustration was sorted out in 24 hours

What do you mean? you can't understand what she does say? Is she one of the Jakarta "Gue and Loh" set? in my very limited experience of Indonesian bar girls - those that are gobby like that are seriously lacking in the "amput" department.

Actually you will find that you won't get anyone to cry - it shows a particular lack of restraint and a certain kampungan style of thinking for an Indonesian, particularly a javanese to be verbally ignorant and harsh.

Hate to burst your bubble there Captain, my girlfriend isn't a bar girl, never been one either. But I see now where all your experience with women comes from.

As you are so incredibly fond of pointing out, I'm not Indonesian -- so I really don't see why you bring up this whole verbally ignorant and harsh thing.

Unless, ofcourse, you're trying to get a sly dig in at my girlfriend, which again proves you are nothing but a self-rightous sad little prick smile

Madcat please ignore the vile rantings of the captain ... you see he has been here for 20 years, speaks indonesian and has a deep understanding of the culture. In addition he has far greater wit and charm than anybody else on this site not to mention earning more money and having a better family. In short he enjoys slagging the world off and talking down to everybody .. if you have a look through this site you will see at one time or another he likes to pick on everybody for what ever information he can gather via the internet. Of course this opinion is formed from my observations on the internet as he has never actually met anybody in real life that he abuses online. So Madcat ... my suggestion is to just ignore him as there is nothing he enjoys more than making people react.

Wrong fatso, been in Indo probably less time than you have, but at least have taken the trouble to learn a little.

I don't need the internet to pick on anyone, and you are no exception.
As for abuse, I hardly think that this counts as abuse.

BTW, who did you tell about your sad little plan to get be banned, and feel free to do just that as you feel fitting.

Actually you will note that I'm never so vain as to post details about my kids achievements and my salary level.

Try for another ban.

Oh I don't mind, his attempts at making people react are amateurish at best, completely worthless most of the time. The only reason I go for it is because I enjoy getting a rise out of outdated dinosaurs like him laugh

Besides it requires little to no effort. If I really put effort into it I could probably get you his real name and home address in a week or so.

Try it smart arse- Hilton tried and the best that silly old twit could get was "Meleng" , but then we did have a tsunami in "Ache".

As for tormenting - I think "menggulung pancing" probably sums it up nicely.

1) Time for which I am very pleasntly compensated
2) Quite happy - not sad
3) Reasonably big and not old
4) Rest assured - I will.
