While further north, proof has been discovered that eating habits have changed and have forced trans-hemisphere pengwen migration patterns as never before.

What say you kennneth yeung ???

from the guardian::

Squirrel Nutkin v Timmy Tiptoes

Squirrel Nutkin
Approx 40cm long, 250-350g
Still widespread across Europe but pushed out of large parts of England and Wales
Eats spruce and pine seeds, berries, fungi, bark and sap tissue
Mates between January and March, with a litter of 1-8
Squirrel Nutkin "a little red squirrel that lived in a wood at the edge of the lake" became one of Beatrix Potter's best-known, and one of the UK's favourite, characters
Endorsements range from Tufty Fluffytail the road safety expert to the star of the Carling Black Label's Mission Impossible ads

Timmy Tiptoes
Approx 50cm long, 400-600g
Now dominant across England and Wales, south of Cumbria, and found in local pockets in Scotland
Eats acorns, tree shoots, flowers, nuts, fruits, roots and cereals
Sometimes produces two litters a year
Potter's bid to follow up her success in 1911 with a tale about "a little fat comfortable grey squirrel called Timmy Tiptoes" never really caught on
Pick up a "Grey Squirrel holding an acorn, just squeeze his belly and hear him make real squirrel chatter" (The Nature Pavilion website)

I understand only too well this modern animosity toward the wretched grey squirrel, which has largely vanquished the red squirrel in Scotland and elsewhere. Despite that, I have fonder memories of The Tale of Timmy Tiptoes than The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, possibly because I received a copy of the former when I was almost 3 years old. I did not read the latter until I was 5.

Squirrel Nutkin, like several of Beatrix Potter's heroes, was basically a prat. He was lazy, played childish games while the other squirrels worked, and repeatedly taunted an old owl with silly riddles. The owl eventually lost his patience with Squirrel Nutkin and caught him by the tail, intending to skin him alive. But Nutkin pulled away so hard that his tail broke in two and he escaped.

While Squirrel Nutkin was always naked, Timmy Tiptoes wore a smart red coat. Timmy and his wife Goody hoarded nuts inside a hollow tree, pushing them in through a small hole. Some other squirrels wrongly accused Timmy of stealing their nuts and pushed him through the hole in the tree. It seemed he would be doomed unless he lost enough weight to enable him to crawl out of the hole. But inside the tree he met an affable chipmunk, who was hiding from his wife, and the two of them gorged themselves on the nuts. Timmy's wife and the chipmunk's wife became worried about their husbands. After two weeks, a strong wind blew the top off the tree, so Timmy went home with his wife. The chipmunk, who still wanted to avoid his wife, stayed in the tree for another week until a bear came and scared him away.

Naturally, Timmy Tiptoes is more appealing than Squirrel Nutkin.
