I found that homeschooling stated to popular in Indonesia by Kak Seto. using bus with educators to the place where many children can't afford to pay and for the some rich families which one an intensive education to their children, they hire a teacher to their house.
some controversy said that it makes the children can't sosialize . as well as the conventional school and there's so many more but I forgot it
and the positive one said that , the quality of the children will be better than the convetional one ( in this case the rich one, but not absolute) and about using the bus to the place where education is hard to get , it'll be very helpful for the children. maybe some of the children that eager to go to school but their parents can't afford to pay the education fee so they still can have education.
how do you think about this homeschooling would it have many positive aspect or the negative aspect ?

i'm pro conventional school. To me that's like the mini/introductory society for kids (before they enter the real world) not saying that school isnt a real world but,.. ya know.
HOmeschooling is not bad in my opinion, provided that the child is getting equal exposure to the outside world (through the adults surrounding her/him, or family members, cousins.. etc).
Don't take any notice of my post. I'm justbored (besides what do i know about kids!)

theres a whole lot more to be learnt at school than academics....i have found that kids that do homeschooling tend to be very awkward, its the social lessons that are really important.

I disagree, I have met many off my daughters friends and they all seem quite well balanced. Recently, I had 14 pupils from BIS assisting at a cocert, everyone off them was polite, well mannered and very willing to work hard.
This cannot be said of all pupils off course, however, I think you may be guilty of generalising....

But don't meet my three Indonesian/Australian cousins - all girls - all studied at international schools. The youngest is now a model, mostly Triumph underwear and beer adverts, including a promotion for Bir Bintang. so apart from the model, what is your assessment of the impact of "international" schools upon their personalities?

they're all cool. Int schools didn't turn them into snooty bitches. they came from a good family - devoid of black sheep. maybe it's that snooty bitches from international schools make a special point of making it known to me that they are/were from an international school ... maybe they need to seek my assurance that they are indeed superior to all and every other ...

Anyone knows what the tuition per year for middle school @JIS or Pelita? I have a friend who is moving back to Jakarta, her daughter can't speak or understand Bahasa Indonesia. She's not sure she can sustain paying the tuition for several years, but thinks putting her daughter the first year there might ease the transition. Anyone has any suggestion?

All pretty standard for International Schools, about US$20-22K per year

I'll make two points as the thread is on two subjects now -- homeschooling and Int'l schools.
1. Homeschooling and the point that kids "won't get properly socialized" --- In most Indonesian public (state) schools, the "socializing" that is being learned is really, really negative and destructive. They learn uncivilized tribal warfare/TRIBALISM, NOT modern social interaction. The 5th graders learn that they must hate the 6th graders and that is good enough reason for a nasty, bloody brawl. The SD#19 students learn to hate SD#12 students and that is good enough reason for nasty, bloody brawl (where, on average, across Jawa, there are at least 3 violent brawl-related deaths PER DAY, according to the Kartini foundation). In university, it's class vs. class, dept. vs. dept., jawa vs. sumatra (for big schools like UI and GM that attract kids from across the archipelago..) etc, etc.. Then there is the nasty, destructive hazing/initiation (aka "orientation) of underclassmen at all levels that builds a false sense of "reverence" for people that are 2 years older -- this is endemic within the Indon schooling system from SD to UNI. Now ask yourself how that benefits them or society -- unless you want to perpetuate the rampant uncivilized tribalism in present-day Indon society.
2. International Schools... Kuku, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said the only ones you know are the arrogant ones that have chosen to let you know. BTW, if they are still here in Indonesia after graduating from such a school, they could be considered a failure amongst their peers, creating some insecurities, which lead to arrogance. The Int'l schools are set up to equip them for their home countries, so unless they have a really good reason, such as they studied 3rd world development, they probably feel like a loser. I worked as a part-time coach at an Int'l school here and 90% of those kids at that school were well-adjusted, relatively humble and very far from arrogant. However, it did seem to vary wildly between schools that we'd visit during athletic events. Some were just like our kids, others were so arrogant they made you seriously consider doling out a bit of GBH (grievous bodily harm). So, with Int'l schools it can be hit and miss. I'll agree with Dill that BIS is indeed one of those that turn out good ones, along with the German School, the Japanese School, SPH Karawaci, Taiwan school, the Dutch school and maybe a couple of others. JIS is a mixed bag, some come out great, others (particularly some chicks) come out really messed up. The Indian (Ghandi) school, The French, Global Jaya, Korean and AIS, in my opinion, have some "issues" that should be dealt with before I'd recommend sending a kid there.
BTW, we are homeschooling our daughter, mostly with family members as teachers and via internet with an official overseas curriculum +++.
