I usually stay in a hotel called Hawaii Hostel on Bencoolan St.
Cost is around 25 bucks a night but your own room, smallish but clean. Share bathroom and small breakfast in the morning. Many food stalls nearby which serve beer also. Also a Burger King on the next corner. Living in Jakarta I miss Burger King badly.

Hmmmmm Burger King. I hear they plan to build one in Jakarta soon.

BK used to be in Indo back in the late 80s early 90s. But they didnt make it back then. Are they returning?

Yes they were here and yes they are coming back. The old franchise holder was a company connected to PT Humpuss (Tommy Soeharto) and folded shortly after Krismon due to "mismanagement". The second coming of BK is going to be done in partnership with PT Mitra Adiperkasa (MAP), a much more business-oriented group, owned by the Salim Group, and the franchise holder in Indonesia for Sogo, Zara, Marks & Spencer, Starbucks, Athlete's Foot, Krispy Kreme donuts etc, etc. In a word, the old franchise partner was more interested in KKN stuff and the new owner is more interested in running businesses that turn profits by being attractive places to shop or eat -- despite what people want to claim about Salim. Anyway it should be good, they'll open in June 2007, probably at the Ex Mall and/or Senayan City to begin with and then expanding from there.

It was started in Pittsburgh when America's jogging fad really kicked off in the 70s by a hippie ex-university runner and his hippie dad who always got athlete's foot (lit: trichophyton fungus) and thought it would be a funny name for their shop -- you know hippies and the wild 70s, everything was a joke. The shop was a huge success and now it's an international franchise.
