If you ask me, there's no good ice cream in Indonesia because of the first ingredient: milk. The best one is import from New Zealand but still, it don't beat the one coming out of a pure canadian holstein cow!

u should try PISA cafe... near by Sarinah... across St. Theresia church... Menteng... yummy.. italian gelato... i love to have mocca, lemon, strawberry.. yummy:)

Dont try the Satu Lagi Bule icecream. Its old and stale, and dribbles out of the dispenser. You have to really pump the dispenser to get anythng at all.

I don't know if it is still there, but there is the oldest Ice Cream Parlour in Jakarta on Jl Veteran, it is near Monas, behind the Mosque on the same street as the Italian Restaurant Domus...also has some great little hidden Indian Restaurants down there.

They still (when I went there) made there own ice cream and whether it was the best or not, the tradition made it good and the pictures of the place on the walls in the 1930/40s when people used to dance and gather are just fantastic. There was a guy who sat out the front and made satay too...boy it was good too. Used to go for Sunday afternoon for satay and ice cream.

i guess the indian restaurants u r talking about are kings and queens,even i used to go to them often but that was long time back

this was exactly the ice cream place i was trying to think of when this topic was first started. i don't even know if it is still open; i remember a Jakarta Post article from more than a year ago that seemed to indicate that changes were afoot.

maybe i'll have to send someone out on a reconnaissance mission.

I think the same family (generation onwards) still owned the place and from what was discussed the last time I was there (many years ago) was that the ice cream recipe was still the same too.

Yes Sanju, the Queens was a superb Indian restaurant, not fancy by a long long shot but the prices were as good as the food, fantastic.

does anyone know what the ice cream and sate parlour is called kind of opposite istiqlal? It is very old and old fashioned style and I cant bloody remember what is it called-it's got lots of funny old colonial photographs on the walls .

Have you ever go to old famous place to eat Kelapa muda and otak2, Ena? Binatu An at Petojo Area not so far from Pasar Baru just go to Tomang direction. They also have a very nice fish ball soup...mmm...yummy.

They TOTALLY have the best OTAK2 in INDONESIA.
