Kompas Bureau Chief Found Dead

Tempo Interactive, Jakarta: An editor with Indonesia's most reputed paper Kompas was found dead at his home in Balikpapan, the second major city in East Kalimantan, on Monday (26/7) morning.

Muhammad Syaifullah, 43, or Ipul who was in charge at the paper's bureau office for Kalimantan was found dead at a house in Kompleks Balikpapan Baru on Jl. Mediterania which was rented by his office.

Reports emerged that white bubbly vomitous seen around his mouth while his body turned blue when found this morning. Managing Editor of Kompas, Budiman Tanuredja said a similar a report came from his reporters in the region.

As the body taken for autopsy to the Bhayangkara Police Hospital in in the city, Indonesian Journalist Association (PWI) issued a statement urging the police to immediately publish the resut of the autopsy as poisoning is suspected.

Muhammad Syaifullah had been with the paper since 1996. He is known for reports on environmental damages, illegal logging, and illegal coal trade in Kalimantan.
