I think PDI-P is assuming a little too much if they think Golkar (without JK), PAN and PPP will flick over to the likely losing side without first tearing themselves apart.

These cunts don't seem to have grasped the fact that the president is now directly elected by the people. They will choose SBY, simple. It doesn't matter what coalitions and devious little schemes they hatch. Once Yudhoyono is elected Kalla will be quickly toppled as Golkar leader and the other parties will be begging the Prez for a slice of the pie. End of fucking story.

“Our meeting today concluded that we would set up a ‘big coalition’ which will include Golkar Party, PDI-P, the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra), the Peoples’ Conscience Party (Hanura), the United Development Party (PPP), and the National Mandate Party (PAN),” Sumarsono said.

Big coalition but who'll be the candidate ya see? A candidate from any one party is not really likely to be voted for by supporters of the other parties in the coalition, they're surely just as likely to vote for SBY. Kalla's a puffed up little twat if he things he could ever be prez, big mistake. Golkar have dipped below 20 percent for the first time and are now on the skids: just another party.

Kalla hails Wiranto as running mate
Dicky Christanto , The Jakarta Post
Fri, 05/01/2009 8:08 PM | National

Golkar Party Chairman Jusuf Kalla and Chairman of the People's Conscious Party (Hanura) have finally broke the silence at the political stage by announcing their pairing in the upcoming presidential election.

"We do realize that the upcoming administration need to move faster and more effective, without any hesitation in tackling problems ahead. Thus we consider that this is the right time to go forward for the presidential election as we have the qualities required to race at the election," presidential hopeful Kalla said Friday.

Kalla said their previous backgrounds as businessman and military member respectively could be used as an added value at the next administration.

Wiranto acknowledged that his decision to join Kalla as vice presidential candidate was based on the chemistry he had felt with Kalla.

"My first consideration that drives me to say yes for this coalition is because I feel very comfortable working with Kalla … the fact that we are the first to announce a nomination for president and vice president shows that we are firm and bold. We know what we want, without hesitating,” he said.

To this date, according to the General Elections Commission (KPU)'s real count result, Golkar managed to secure the third place by garnering 14 percent of vote while Hanura managed to secure 3.8 percent of votes. So far this pair was the first pair that announced its candidacy to face the upcoming presidential election.

Four Major Parties Sign Pact to Form an Opposition
The Jakarta Globe
May 2, 2009

Four major political parties on Friday signed a coalition agreement aimed at strengthening their positions in the legislature, party officials said.

The Golkar Party and the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the 2004 poll winners, entered a coalition that also included two upstart parties — the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) and People’s Conscience Party (Hanura) — believed to have been among the 10 largest vote getters in the April 9 legislative elections.

The coalition also involved four smaller parties that appear likely not to gain any seats from last month’s elections.

But their self-proclaimed “jumbo coalition” agreement stipulated that the four main parties would initially only work together in the legislature at the national level, in the provinces, the districts and municipalities. “We will talk about [the presidential candidate] later. We unite first, then we will decide on the technicalities. The coalition in the legislature is an initial step to set up a government,” said Golkar chairman Jusuf Kalla after the signing at the Hanura party headquarters in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

The other signatories included PDI-P chairwoman Megawati Sukarnoputri, Gerindra founder Prabowo Subianto and Hanura chairman Wiranto.

The prospect of a coalition between the four was doubted by many who said it would be difficult for the parties to agree on a pair of candidates for the presidential and vice presidential elections on July 8.

Noticeably missing from the coalition were the United Development Party (PPP) and the National Mandate Party (PAN), which had earlier been touted as potential coalition members. Their respective chairmen, Suryadharma Ali and Sutrisno Bachir, were absent at the signing.

Suryadharma’s deputy, Chozin Chumaidy, said the PPP had not signed the agreement, as the chairman was not mandated by his party to do so. Without the PPP and PAN, the coalition is believed to account for about 38 percent of the votes in the legislative elections. That may translate to about 40 percent of the 560 seats in the House of Representatives.

Bima Arya Nugraha, of the Charta Politika Indonesia private political consultancy, said the coalition could pose a real problem for the government.

“This coalition has so much power if they become the opposition. They could be a problem for the government,” he said.

Surely there'll a night of the long knives over at Golkar HQ when this fiasco has finished. Their hubris and arrogance has left them deservedly high and dry. Hopefully they'll be permanently diminished by this election. Fuck 'em I say, horrible bunch of criminals..

Less than 15% I believe as things are sliding steadily (and satisfyingly) further south for them.

Hatta Rajasa pays Mega a visit over "house ownership"

Dicky Christanto , The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Wed, 05/06/2009 7:12 PM | National

Secretary of State Hatta Rajasa visited Wednesday the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri over what Rajasa claimed to be state affairs.

"I am here to do a state business, it is about this house ownership. I am here to officially confirm Megawati that this house is hers ,"Rajasa, who is also a vice presidential candidate from the National Mandate Party (PAN), told journalists.

According to a regulation, every former president and vice president is entitled to a plot of land in Jakarta's premium location, such as Menteng and other similar areas. The land was given as a token of gratitude from the administration to former top state executives.

When asked about whether he had also discussed the possibility of building a coalition with Megawati, Rajasa declined to comment.

why are PDIP playing "footsies" with PD all of a sudden?

and why has Mega gone silent over her presidential candidature?

is an SBY-Mega marriage in the offing?

nonetheless, detik.com are just now calling BI governor Boediono as SBY's running mate.

House speaker's career goes the way of his airline Adam Air -- It crashes and burns.

The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Mon, 05/11/2009 9:07 PM | National
House of Representatives Speaker Agung Laksono said on Monday that he would continue serving as a politician under the Golkar Party after several counts indicated he had failed to gain a House seat.

“I am not worried about the possibility I may not be reelected. As long as all processes comply with the procedure, I will be ready to accept what happens,” he said as quoted by Kompas.com.

Preliminary seat allocations show that the Golkar Party would not get any seats in Jakarta electoral district I, where Agung was competing.

Agung said he would continue working as a party executive should he lose his seat.

“In politics, I have to be ready either as a winner or a loser. It's a risk one must face,” he said. (ewd)

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has field split in Indonesia poll

* Font Size: Decrease Increase
* Print Page: Print

Stephen Fitzpatrick, Jakarta correspondent | May 13, 2009
Article from: The Australian

SUSILO Bambang Yudhoyono has fractured the field ahead of registrations this weekend for Indonesian presidential elections in July.

Opponents and potential allies alike are floundering as they await an announcement on Friday of the affable general's running mate.

Rapidly firming speculation has his deputy being Bank Indonesia governor Boediono, a suave Australian and US-educated technocrat, who has overseen much of Indonesia's economic reform program during the five years of Mr Yudhoyono's administration.

Like an experienced fisherman toying with his catch, Mr Yudhoyono has effectively immobilised former leader - and his ex-boss - Megawati Sukarnoputri, who had hoped to run as the presidential candidate for her Indonesian Democratic Party for Struggle (PDI-P).

As recently as last week, party Secretary General Pramono Anung affirmed PDI-P's intention "to continue to fight to be able to put Megawati forward as president". But political analyst Indria Samego, from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, declared yesterday that Ms Megawati's party had "taken the bait" in dealing with recent coalition-building advances from Mr Yudhoyono's team, and could as a result find itself abandoned by its constituents.

Visits by emissaries from Mr Yudhoyono's Democrat Party to Ms Megawati's central Jakarta home were little more than a political manoeuvre to disrupt her negotiations over a joint candidacy with the retired general Prabowo Subianto and his Greater Indonesia Movement, Dr Samego said.

Ms Megawati's house was recently dubbed by the politically savvy Jakarta newspaper Rakyat Merdeka the "command post of losers", for the number of visits by representatives from the also-rans among 38 parties that stood candidates in recent parliamentary polls.

Although many of these failed to achieve a 2.5 per cent vote threshold that would give them seats in the 560-seat legislature, they can nonetheless still join forces to cross a separate 25 per cent of national votes line required to stand a presidential candidate.

However Ms Megawati - under whom Mr Yudhoyono served as defence minister - now stands to be the biggest loser, with General Prabowo appearing to have siphoned the also-rans his way, rather than continue a deal with the daughter of Indonesia's first leader.

An agreement with enough minnows would let General Prabowo stand for president, with one of them putting up a running mate.

And with Mr Yudhoyono's Democrat Party the only group having won enough votes to stand a candidate in its own right - with the Democrats having sewn up deals with the half-dozen or so second-string parties on forming a ruling coalition in the new house - the cash-strapped PDI-P could be left in the position of not having a candidate stand at all.

Normally inclined to being something of a braggart, General Prabowo has played his cards extremely close during recent weeks, as Ms Megawati's party and the one-time ruling Golkar party each appear to disintegrate from within.

Golkar's likely presidential candidate, current Vice-President Jusuf Kalla, was expected to formally nominate yesterday along with his running-mate, People's Conscience Party retired former general Wiranto.

However, citing procedural problems, the pair failed to make an appearance at the electoral commission offices - serving only to strengthen the perception that Mr Yudhoyono's team is holding all the aces.

heart attack has been denied; it was merely "exhaustion", so they are saying ...

he was referred to as a "politisi bertumbuh subur"; which literally translates to "politician with a prosperous/fertile/luxurious body", but which is just a euphemism for "fat politician".
