if i remember rightly, soekarno said "to hell with your aid!", directed at the US/West.

In one book I've read on the West Irian/Papua history, the author, Osborne, claims that Sukarno tells a Cabinet meeting in mid-1963 that the 'UN should just go to hell.' (At the time, the UN, under the auspices of UNTEA, was the internationally recognized administrators of what is now Papua, and they were stifling his imperial designs at every turn both in Papua and northern Borneo over the whole 'konfrontasi' thing.)

Anyway, as you can see in picture 3, Hell's not really all that remarkable a place, so I can't get my head around this whole fascination with requesting that people go there.

Actually, it wasn't the Miss Indonesia entrant they were protesting against. It was the newly crowned Miss Universe from Japan - Ms. Mori - who was on a tour around Indonesia. When she got to Bandung, she got that rude reception and decided she'd had enough of this country and split.

Magpie put a news story up in the 'Current Affairs' forum about the whole incident. Because she's the newly crowned Miss Universe, the story has been receiving World Wide media attention and once again a handful of idiots has made Indonesia look absurd.

Why are these people so backwards? It's not only here in Indonesia, but all over the world, only THEIR KIND that is the most backwards among all human kinds.
